Program Notes: Dimming - electric guitar and live electronics Dimming is the third part of a cycle dedicated to sleep. This movement uses improvisation inspired by the second phase of non-REM sleep. The patch dictates the shape of the movement, based on the existing research of brain activity information during this stage. This is represented through the sample sounds and the guitarist improvises over this activity. In this stage, the sleeper blocks outside stimuli and follows the brain into deep sleep, which is represented in the piece. The faster parts represent "Sleep Spindles" and "K-Complexes," which occur during this stage. ![]() back
